Member Registration
The Minnesota Polocrosse Club offers to its members: regular meetings, regular practices at provided and maintained practice facilities, networking contacts with fellow players and supporters, communication updates, coaching and umpire training opportunities, and various local and national competitive opportunities!
An annual membership fee is a necessary requirement for all polocrosse players in order to cover, among other things, the expenses associated with maintaining fields and facilities as well as other operational costs.
Minnesota Polocrosse prides itself on providing a high-quality playing experience for all of its members and an important part of that experience is ensuring we have enough players at different skill levels to play other clubs. Traveling With Your Horse
Traveling and camping with a horse is a little more involved than traveling and camping by yourself, but with planning and practice you can devise ways of doing it safely and comfortably. One of the things that people enjoy the most about the sport of Polocrosse is the many opportunities we have to travel all across the country with our horses.
The camping aspect of polocrosse can be either enjoyable or burdensome, depending on the individual. Those who find it enjoyable may invest significant time and money into their ride camp, such as purchasing living quarter trailers, campers, or motorhomes. On the other hand, some people are content with sleeping in a tent or the back seat of their pickup truck. Regardless of personal preference, camping with a horse requires a considerable amount of equipment and supplies, and it’s common to forget at least one essential item per trip. To avoid this frustration, a practical solution is to create a checklist of necessary items and refer to it while packing. To access a helpful checklist of suggested items for an out-of-state polocrosse tournament, click here.
There are several ways to keep your horse at a tournament, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The easiest and most common method is to tie your horse to the horse trailer using a lead rope, but this restricts their movement and prevents them from lying down comfortably. A better option is to use metal swing outs with stretchy tie ropes like HiTie or Spring Tie, which allow more space for the horse to move around.
Another option to consider is a high picket line, which involves tying a sturdy rope six feet or more off the ground and attaching a steel ring for the horse to be tied to. This allows the horse to walk the length of the line and access feed and water buckets at each end. Multiple horses can be tied to one picket line with “stoppers” to keep them separated. However, it’s important to tie the horse short enough to avoid entanglement, and to use an emergency release like a “panic snap” or safety halter.
Alternatively, corrals made of metal or PVC plastic pipe can be transported on the side of the trailer and erected quickly at the campsite. However, these do not provide much space for movement, and unless staked down properly, horses can lift them off the ground. Overall, it’s important to choose a method that suits your horse’s needs and comfort, and to ensure their safety by using proper equipment and emergency releases.
An electric fence corral, also known as an “e-fence,” is a popular choice among polocrosse players. This type of corral is constructed using electrically charged tape, which is strung on plastic or fiberglass poles and connected to a solar or battery-powered charger. The fencing tape is made of nylon with fine wires woven in to carry the electricity. An e-fence can be easily put up or taken down and can be any size or shape desired. It allows the horse maximum freedom to move around with minimal risk of entanglement.
E-fences are widely available for purchase online or at farm, agricultural, and equestrian retailers like Mills Fleet Farm. To assist with setting up your portable fence, there are instructional videos available on platforms like YouTube, such as this example.
